I began skating at 12 years old , when Fairview minor hockey started in 1964 . There were 4 peewee teams splitting 1 hour of ice . The 30 minute game regulated by a buzzer , provided 9 minutes of ice time per player per game . This lasted 3 years until Centennial Arena was built . All my buddies and myself developed our hockey skills on a pond located on the 14th hole of Ashburn golf club, the one that you see when you're entering Halifax. It's a miracle that one of us wasn't killed crossing the bicentennial highway getting to the pond.
I played minor hockey, high school at Halifax West, Junior for Halifax Colonels, Chester Blazers and Halifax Blazers; Senior “ A “ for Halifax Keith’s; Intermediate in the Halifax Suburban Hockey League; 7 years with the Fairview Aces ; 6 years the Rockingham Eagles .
I joined the Midtown Hockey Club of the Halifax Oldtimer’s Hockey League , when I turned 35 highlighted by playing on a line with Roddy Bossy for 22 years .
I moved to Fox Point Lake 12 years ago and began playing with the Chester guys on Tuesday night . When I retired 5 years ago , I started playing in the afternoon with the the Chester Oldtimers .
The highlight for me is after 50 years of playing hockey I have the same passion for the game as I did when I first hit the ice as 1964. - Danny
